Magnolia West football player John Matocha is named the male gold overall winner during the annual Mike Ogg All Montgomery County Athlete Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center in Conroe.The dual-threat dynamo of the No. 1 offense in NCAA Division II burst onto the national scene because of what he can do on the field.

Matocha leads a 13-2 Orediggers team into the NCAA Division II national championship game Saturday against defending national champ Ferris State at noon in McKinney on ESPNU. “John is the ultimate teammate,” said Moore, promoted from defensive coordinator in January. “His leadership qualities are really what make him special. The team unites behind him.

Matocha refuses to take credit for his substantial success this season. Even the individual accolades, he said, are a team thing.
