The international partners at COP26 in Glasgow, Scotland, had pledged an initial $8.5 billion to support the decarbonisation of the South African economy. The other two areas being targeted to limit emissions are electricity, through the decommissioning of coal-fired power stations – and the development of electric vehicles.
