Stanford names Troy Taylor as football head coach

Stanford has named Taylor its new football head coach.has hired Troy Taylor as the university’s next football head coach. Taylor, who most recently served as Sacramento State’s head coach, takes over from David Shaw, who announced his departure at the end of the regular season.

“Troy is a proven winner who has experienced success at many levels of football,” said Stanford athletic director Bernard Muir in. “Throughout our visits together he demonstrated an understanding of what makes Stanford special, and a deep desire to capitalize on our unique strengths.” The Cardinal are coming off back-to-back 3-9 seasons and haven’t finished a full season with a winning record since 2018.

A number of major names had been floated for the head coaching vacancy. Former Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett, former Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio and current Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman were all rumored to be in the running for the Stanford job.
