Forester Kyle Lybarger's findings have helped restore dozens of Alabama’s dwindling grasslands, and, more recently, he received a grant to share his expertise with Hartselle students.

The response led him to create theIt’s a career he never imagined for himself, Lybarger said, even though he’d long been interested in the outdoors.

“I don’t think all kids are built to sit in the classroom all day, and I don’t think that’s the best way to learn half the time,” he said. “Being outside, seeing things – that’s how I get to learn. And that’s what I try to do in my videos, is just to educate people the way I like to learn.” Lybarger worked with loggers and private landowners to manage properties in ways that were good for the land, he said. He’d take out the bad trees and replace them with something better, often turning them into a savanna rich with new species of grasses and wildflowers.
