School board wanted to cut strings program for Grade 5 students

An online survey as part of the Greater Victoria School District’s review of its elementary strings program is now open to the public.

The board agreed to review the program after community groups, including Victoria’s Advocacy for Music in School, raised a combined $200,000 in May to cover salaries for staff in the strings program. The funding is in place until the end of the 2023 school year. “It’s good news that parents are being asked for input, but we really hoped for an in-person meeting,” said Paula Marchese, chair of Victoria’s Advocacy for Music in Schools.

Comments of up to 150 characters are allowed in the survey, which is being hosted on the ThoughtExchange platform.
