Charter school advocates have been demanding IPS share some of those proceeds with charters, regardless of whether they are affiliated with IPS.
IPS proposes to use the capital referendum to rebuild one elementary school, revamp athletic facilities and fund various facility upgrades to schools across the district as proposedThe operating referendum is estimated to generate $51.7 million annually over eight years. If both referendums are approved by voters next May, it would be a total increase of $823.6 million in property taxes
The plan’s mission is to expand programs across the district and allow every IPS student to have equal access to activities such as music, sports, languages and STEM. “If we're going to all have to pay more taxes to support our public schools, then all of our public school students should receive those,” Russell said.
