The Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, Prof. Christian Anieke, has said that speaking and writing English is a major challenge to many Nigerian graduates.

Anieke spoke when officials of the National Universities Commission visited the university on Friday.

Anieke said the GOUNI had identified the use of English as the major weakness of many graduates from other institutions, stressing that some first-class graduates found it difficult to write or speak correct English. “This is why we introduced a course called “Communication in English“ and the students’ inability to use the English language correctly could be due to their background.

Because we are fools. All the developed world taught with their local language but Africa chose to teach with a borrowed language imposed on us by the slave masters. The English,in English.Italy 🇮🇹,in Italian. China,in Chinese. German 🇩🇪 in German.Russia in Russia & Africa.......?

Do Chinese speak English?

As a matter if fact we the Nigerian students are not even ready to speak English again. ASUU strike has made us shy of speaking English.

Don't mind them and their hypocrisy.

Because, the foundation which is in secondary schools is weak. This is a wrong foundation at Post Primary school level. This is the failure of the Federal government - federal ministry of education. All regulatory agencies have failed. This is a national shame !!!+

It's never a challenge sir!

This girl of about 6yrs speaks good, well constructed sentences I was forced to ask questions just to hear her talk. Pls leave matter

Is English language a measure of someone's intelligence? Just like other Nigerian languages & languages of the world, English is a language, but intended to colonize Africans . In Nigeria, is it all the languages u can speak? So why bother us about English language? Nonsense.

Well it is not my mother tongue. It is a borrowed language.
