Breaking: The Supreme Court agreed to decide whether President Biden can cancel student-loan debt, putting the matter on a timeline that should produce a ruling by June

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to decide whether the Biden administration can cancel student-loan debt for millions of Americans, putting the matter on a fast-track timeline that should produce a final ruling by the end of June.

The court, in an unsigned order, didn’t act on the administration’s emergency request that it be allowed to move forward with the debt relief immediately. But the justices set arguments on the matter for this winter, agreeing to the White House’s alternative request that the court take up the case now to decide whether the debt forgiveness is a lawful exercise of presidential power.

If supreme court says biden can fogive student loans. America will be spit I'm the face by crooks in the courts. When everyone else had to pay their own loans.

No way this is legal All he did was dupe stupid young people to think they get something for nothing for their vote

If a President can unilaterally decide for himself to spend 300 billion of the taxpayer's dollars and use it to pay off a select groups self imposed financial obligations, then we are no longer in a Republic. This would be called a Monarchy.

All they have to do is go to Biden’s words “I don’t have the authority to do that.”

BETTER GRANT MORE TIME TO REPAY BUT NOT TOTAL CANCEL OF STUDENT LOAN DEBT FOR BETTER ECONOMIC DISCIPLINE. EVERY LOAN AVAILED HAS TO BE REPAID. IF IT CANNOT BE REPAID IT SHOULD NOT BE GRANTED AT ALL. MANY LOANS GIVEN ARE FROM DEPOSITS ACCEPTED TO REPAY DEPOSITORS AS PER SCHEDULE.

It will get overturned because it didn't go through Congress. I really wish the focus was more on the outrageous cost of college in the US. The loan forgiveness is small compared to what these schools charge. I do think people should pay what they agreed though.

This is so ridiculous; of course he cannot just cancel debt legitimately acquired from a lender he is not connected to. That is absurd. He is a joke.

Cancelling student loan debt sets a precedence that it’s acceptable to back out of contractual obligations. This is not a good idea. Contracts are legally binding and need to remain that way.

Good. Hopefully they agree it’s an abuse of presidential power.
