Katy ISD looked to an existing presence on the Panthers' sideline to shepherd the team forward after their recently-departed coach resigned under scandal.

Hicks took over for Lonnie Teagle, who resigned in October amid allegations that he inappropriately touched schoolgirls.Paetow High School interim head football coach David Hicks was named to the permanent job after predecessor Lonnie Teagle resigned.An existing presence on Paetow High School's sidelines got the nod to become the permanent head football coach in the wake of a scandal.

Before ascending to head coach, Hicks was Teagle's assistant coach who is also in his first year at Paetow. Hicks has 11 years of public education experience, both in academics and athletics. He had stops at Sharpstown and Westside high schools in Houston ISD, as well as a previous Katy ISD stint at Morton Ranch High School from 2017 to 2021.
