British Columbia's public school teachers have ratified a new three-year contract.
BCTF president Clint Johnston says the union has “achieved some historic gains that will help members who are struggling with the affordability crisis.” It boosts annual salaries for new teachers as much as $8,500 by the end of the third year while B.C.'s highest-paid educators will earn up to $13,500 more over the same period, which Johnston says pushes them above the $100,000-per-year threshold for the first time.
Other improvements in the contract include 10 additional minutes of preparation time for elementary teachers, strengthened heath and maternity benefits and a provincial minimum standard for professional development funding, the union said earlier.
Happy for how long now
How nice now if only students would have less days OFF to learn more.
Now if only EAs can get a decent raise to help with the huge shortage and more funding for the special needs departments. My child and many other children with special needs don't get support they need. If only they were treated better.
More pay and less teaching time? Of course I'd vote for that too. And the 10%+ wage increase comes out of the pocket book of those that only get maybe a 1% raise. That's one way for the NDP to get votes - buy them.
Of course they did ndp spending like they don’t care about inflation it’s all about votes
More indoctrination
