Dog bylaw amendments passed; speed sensor technology discussed.

. Despite postings at job fairs and a fully paid training program for new drivers, parents across the county are still receiving text alerts notifying them their routes have been cancelled, leaving them with little time to find an alternative.“In October, there were 18 days that children could be in school, and there were seven days that my children did not have busing to school,” said Lomond. “That is 38.

Every councillor present agreed with Lomond’s proposal, with some sharing their own experiences, or experiences they have heard of, with the current busing situation. The updated bylaw requires dogs to be leashed on all municipal property that is signed. This includes parks, playgrounds and trails. It also clarifies the definition of what can be considered a fierce and dangerous dog, while also managing repeat offences better.

Solicitor Dennis James noted there is no internal appeal process for this bylaw, meaning any appeals made by an owner would have to go directly to court instead of a specific council committee. One benefit of these microsensors is they are out of sight from drivers, giving them no indication their speed is being monitored, Patton argued.
