Police confirmed Monday that there was no shooting at Granger Elementary, after online rumors spread that a gun had been fired inside the West Valley City school and panicked parents rushed to the scene.

There was a heavy police presence outside the school, with a helicopter flying overhead and at least 20 squad cars surrounding the neighborhood. Parents gathered behind the fences, asking if their children were safe.

West Valley City police tweeted just after noon that no shooting had occurred. But parents were instructed to pick up their children at Redwood Swap Meet at 3688 S. Redwood Road, where they had been evacuated as a precaution.

FWIW that “grocery store” on the former Granger Elementary site is Costco

So the teacher who made the call that freaked out half the valley has no idea what a gunshot sounds like. The same kind of person calls the police on people with umbrellas because they think they are guns.

What about the other 300 schools in the valley?

I was driving in the area and pulled over as all the police vehicles drove towards the scene. 😨
