Carole McDaniel Hanks Professor of Literature and Culture Greg Garrett said the university should be leading the charge to raise awareness about Griner's wrongful imprisonment, but it's not happening. A Russian court found Griner guilty of smuggling and storing narcotics after prosecutors requested a sentence of nine and a half years in jail for the athlete."She had this habit of riding down the avenue on her longboard and it is one of my favorite memories of Baylor," he said.
"When she was sentenced and sent to prison this week, I was like 'oh my God I can't believe that this is happening,'"he said. "It feels like a failure to me and I don't want to indict any single person, but it's there from the regents all the way down except for Baylor's current head coach," he said."It seems nobody seems to be speaking out for her and that disturbs me."
clocktower74 Brittney Griner DOES NOT represent the spiritual or moral values of Baylor BaylorWBB. She is a person of HATE. Protesting our National Anthem, Flag and the freedoms that the United States represents. She is where she deserves to be. Actions have consequences. brittneygriner
I don’t think she has been especially kind to Baylor since she left. She has flaunted her ‘sexuality clash’ with the school openly as well as her drug use. Why would Baylor charge to her defense? Sounds like she made her bed and burned bridges in the process.
What has talking done, other than virtual signal? I think it just makes it worse. No one in Russia is listening to random Americans complain about their laws.
Baylor is full of religious hypocrites. They all loved BG when she was winning ball games and now that she needs help and support, crickets. FU BU!
Jesus...Nothing but a bunch of 'feel good about yourself,' talking points. If the professor actually gave a shit about her, perhaps he or she should go to Russia to visit her.
“In 2012, Griner took Baylor to an undefeated season and national championship.”
Interesting convicted criminal isn't in the list of things Griner is known for. The good professor should probably pray for her. Sucks to violate the law and get caught but if you get caught bringing drugs into the U.S. you to go to jail.
