BREAKING The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) says it has reached a tentative deal to avert a strike with the Ontario government after labour negotiations over the weekend.

Both parties agreed to a $1-per-hour raise each year, or about 3.59% annually, says CUPEThe union representing 55,000 Ontario education workers has not yet released details about the deal, but said earlier that both sides had already reached an agreement on wages even as the union kept pushing for certain staffing levels to be guaranteed.with the Ontario government after labour negotiations over the weekend.

"Today we've reached a tentative agreement with the provincial government. Workers will be in schools tomorrow and there will not be a strike," said Laura Walton, the president of CUPE's Ontario School Board Council of Unions. "For that, to parents and families, all I can say is that I'm disappointed and so is the entire bargaining committee," she said. But the union was still looking for $100 million in guarantees of higher staffing levels for educational assistants, librarians, custodians and secretaries, as well as an early childhood educator in every kindergarten classroom and not just classes that have more than 16 students.

They won't take that deal and strike will be pending

So this one agreed to recommend the deal as part of the negotiations, then immediately gives a press conference to say she's against it. Talk about bargaining in bad faith. Can see why the negotiations have been so fractious if she's been involved.

ResignDougFord in shame. This is the most corrupt, incompetent, dishonest, cowardly gov't to stain the history of our province. Who owns the green belt land? Oh right, Ford donors bought it. Why won't Ford testify under oath? FordFailedOntario FordMustGo FordIsACoward

Yaaay... Now I need the city to plow the road I live on so I can get my kids to school!!! 😶

It still needs to be ratified by the membership and that very well may not happen.

Not done yet, nope.

Too bad, fire them all.

Very good decision

Wasn't about money but as soon as they got their money, they're good with the offer...lol

Amd now that the bargaining representative has accepted a deal that a majority of the strikers aren't happy with (I know what was offered), you'll have thousands of them leaving their jobs, so you'll be left understaffed anyways.

Whatever side has a vuvuzela, that's the side I'm agin.

Next week they will be filing their 5 day notice to strike again. Just wait.

And off to next year to ask for more money again!

Ontario spends about 16K per student per year. 80% of that goes towards labour. How about giving parents a choice, where they can get a 16K voucher and choose to enrol their kid in a private school instead. What's wrong with choice and competition?

HallieCBC Too much ado about nothing! CUPE should use its surplus fees chest to provide significant dues rebates to these 55000 victims.

Ford and Lecce never budged. The workers still have to vote to accept this. They should reject it and strike. Don't let the corrupt government win. Get what you deserve.

I mean it is surely a good thing to have school tmr but can we all just show a bit of maturity. Can we just not have this last-minute chaos and more peace? peace greatful LH44

WTF? I thought you quit Twitter!

Finally some good news.

And now watch all the teachers and CUPE members lose their mind... they were salivating so much at the idea of striking again... The tolerant left wanted it to fail so bad just to stick it to Ford

Great news. Now let's talk about Justin, the CCP and the federal election candidates involved in foreign interference.

See what happens when you negotiate rather than impose back-to-work legislation. The Fascist Ford government was abusing its powers when they invoked the Notwithstanding Clause and was playing dirty. Bargain or take it to arbitration. Don't impose settlements
