“We are disappointed that only a few short days after talks restarted, CUPE has filed notice to once again shut down classrooms,” Education Minister Stephen Lecce said Thursday. “Since resuming talks, we’ve put forward multiple improved offers that would have added hundreds of millions of dollars across the sector, especially for lower income workers.”From our newsroom to your inbox at noon, the latest headlines, stories, opinion and photos from the Toronto Sun.
In a notice posted online, the union said that despite many late hour attempts to achieve a freely negotiated settlement, talks have broken down again and the “difficult decision” was made to serve a five-day strike notice to the Ontario government and the Council of Trustees Association.Article content
“The OSBCU remains focused on not only achieving a deal that provides workers with a liveable wage but ensures that the services that students need are improved and protected,” the union notice says.tap here to see other videos from our teamWalton has earlier said that the government has offered a bigger pay hike to lower earners and the union will not accept a tiered wage increase.
The union previously walked off the job in protest after the Doug Ford government brought in legislation that used the Charter’s notwithstanding clause to ban a planned strike and impose a contract. The Ford government repealed the legislation Monday on the condition that the education workers would end their protest that closed most classrooms in Ontario to in-person learning.
suntooz Doug Ford named 43 paid parliamentary assistants, up 65% from 2018, to assist 14 Ministers. S. Lecce has 2 assistants, pay bump 16,000$. Now CUPE asking for ''support'' for workers, equivalent to Minister of Education having 2 assistants as support.
suntooz AND today, Lecce claims that kids have lost 2,246 days out of class due to strikes since 1989? There are about 190 school days per year. So, they lost the equivalent of nearly 12 YEARS due to strikes
suntooz lockout bring in the scabs for good. See if they will come back for a 2.5% decrease a year for 3 yrs LOL
suntooz Bring back legislation
suntooz Really bad timing if CUPE is hoping for any sympathy from the general populace.
suntooz The Union needs more money, they don't care about the kids.
suntooz Why should they get 11% raise especially in these times
suntooz Fool Ford at it again
suntooz Because you neglected to honour your words. Typically PC. You better wake up and smell the coffee or these unions will join hands and walk out one day too show you how easy they could shut the province down. You think you can order people to take your deal and go back to work
suntooz Good.
suntooz This is clear proof that you can’t back down from the greedy unions. All they know is collective extortion. Time to ban public sector unions.
suntooz BREAKING* CUPE stages anti kid inserection. With Starbucks in hand and blue hair dye dripping from the freshly falling snow, members of CUPE have taken to the streets to show the world that money is more impowering than education. More at 6🤣🤣
suntooz Bring in the fines fordnation
suntooz Put these damn goofs as an essential service, and stop the madness!!!
suntooz Let ‘em walk. Time to lose the unions.
suntooz They wanted a war but couldn’t before elections to ensure NDP or LIBERAL win. They lost on both fronts. They want (Bill 129) obliterated. It’s time for Ford to let them stay out on strike.
suntooz They’ll spin this on on fighting for better toilets…
suntooz fordnation You never should have backed down. Bring back legislation and keep your foot on their throats!
suntooz Fire all of them
suntooz Fire All of Them!!!!!!
suntooz Gee I wonder why, oh right because the government isn't showing up to negotiations and they still haven't repealed Bill 24 which they said they would.
