In a statement released Wednesday, the Canadian Union of Public Employees said that despite “many late hour attempts to achieve a freely negotiated settlement,” talks with the provincial government once again “broke down.”
In response, Education Minister Stephen Lecce said the government is “very disappointed” by the “unnecessary” decision to strike. CUPE’s education workers are still in legal strike position after a conciliator issued what’s known as a “no board” report on Oct. 17.The union and the Ontario government returned to the negotiating table last week following a two-day strike by the union’s custodians, librarians and early childhood educators that forced the closure of hundreds of schools across the province.

I am a parent and an educator. Every day at school I see what CUPE workers do. Without them our schools can’t function. Our most vulnerable students rely on EAs. Pay them a decent wage and support our public school kids. All kids matter and should be supported.
EAs come to school, do bus duty, go to classes to support students, do recess duty, support students, have the same amount of time as students to eat, do lunch duty, support students, recess duty, support students, bus duty, leave because they are off the clock, prep time when?
Just stop this nonsense. This is ridiculous that CUPEOntario thinks they can just threaten a strike when they don’t get their way.
