Bard College has announced that it is beginning a scholarship program that will support 60 Ukrainian students who are displaced, under threat, or unable to continue their education due to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

... [+]this week that it is beginning a scholarship program that will support 60 Ukrainian students who are displaced, under threat, or unable to continue their education due to Russia’s continuing war against Ukraine.

While the financial terms of the scholarships will vary, Bard indicated that each will cover a minimum of full tuition for the recipients. Housing and living stipends will also be available on a case-by-case basis, based on an individual’s financial need. The scholarships will be for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of renewal.

The program, designed to allow students to begin or continue their undergraduate education, will support students attending Bard College’s main campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and its affiliated campuses in New York City, Bard College Berlin, or Bard College at Simon’s Rock in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

According to Bard’s announcement, the scholarships are aimed at college students from Ukraine who have lost access to higher education due to displacement or because the institutions they were attending were forced to close or are operating under challenging circumstances because of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Students at Ukrainian universities that are still operating “will be hosted in cooperation with their home institution, both to ensure that students can continue working towards their degrees, and to maintain the stability of those Ukrainian institutions that are currently under duress,” according to Bard.

College endowments could easily pay for student loan forgiveness, but they’ll raise tuition, instead. Funny how the loan forgiveness hit the bricks just after the election 🤔
