Archbishop of Armagh Eamon Martin has said that there is a 'crying need' for hope and atonement in the face of revelations about abuse in the Catholic Church, amid new allegations concerning Blackrock College in Dublin

Image: RollingNews.ie ARCHBISHOP OF ARMAGH Eamon Martin has said that there is a “crying need” for hope and atonement in the face of revelations about abuse in the Catholic Church.

It comes after an RTÉ radio documentary which broadcast allegations of abuse relating to the Spiritans order in Blackrock College in Dublin. Church wise, so much has changed in this last 35 years. I could never have imagined, leaving Maynooth, 35 years ago, the seismic changes that were to take place – the significant decline in regular sacramental practice, the fall-off in vocations to the priesthood and religious life, the shocking revelations of abuse in the Church.

Martin, who is Chancellor of Saint Patrick’s Pontifical University in Maynooth, told the graduates that “there are clear calls for greater transparency and participation in decision making and for more accountability within our parish and diocesan church structures.” There is, he said, “a call to discover fresh models of responsibility and leadership in the Church which will facilitate the role of women, as well as men, and help reach out to those who in recent decades have left the Church, or who feel excluded, forgotten or ignored.

Take them out of schools and hospitals, and tax them.

If they were in prison there would be hope and if the victims were apologised to there would be atonement

To seize ALL of their land and assets of this vile cult is what is needed.

What a f***ing disgusting institution, always was, always will be, remove them from our society, sell their land and compensate those who were abused .. Catholic Church should be outlawed !!

Or pay compensation to victims...

The same cult had a windfall in Dublin this week.. A cool €10,000,000. Just as Jesus would have wanted.

There's a need to get these people out of our schools and hospitals - now.

ArchbishopEamon empty words as ever. Hope and atonement, the usual vapid and facile statements. Do something meaningful or stay quiet. The organisation has done enough harm without meaningless platitudes.

Cheap words by Archbishop Eamon Martin. Best way to atone is to make a decent redress to those devastated by the rapists and abusers concealed and sheltered by the catholic church. At this stage words alone are hollow BlackrockCollege

This organisation should be banned. No other organisation in the history of the world has done the damage this lot have. Every church should be car parked, destroyed and never allowed to reopen, wolves in sheeps clothing, literally.

Blah blah blah... the same old empty words the catholic church in ireland has been dribbling for decades. Dropping the lip and going 'We vewy vewy sowwy.' doesn't cut it anymore. This rotten organisation needs to be routed from Irish society.

The only atonement this evil cult can make is to fold its tent and go away, and all their property confiscated.

Get out of our schools and hospitals. OUT

Sell your land.

We will give an apology but don’t be pushing us to compensate. We are now good boys and we don’t do any more sexual abusing. We promise. Blah. Blah, good works. Irish people tend to be very forgiving when they are not the victims.

Eamon Martin is a cheerleader for the dup.
