According to the findings, the university has made impressive theoretical strides towards transformation but these do not translate into the lived experiences of students and staff. Schreiber, however, maintains the inquiry — which equated the Afrikaans language with racism in its findings — “only interviewed a grand total of one bona fide witness during its proceedings” yet characterised the town of Stellenbosch as being “home to many conservative, typically White Afrikaners who bear racist and other bigoted beliefs and attitudes”.

“Khampepe ended up interviewing a grand total of only 47 people — 46 of whom did not voluntarily come forward out of concern with the commission’s work, but on the instruction of their bosses in university management. Some of the interviewees were even members of management themselves.

RACISM REPORT ANALYSIS: Race relations report reveals how donors, alumni and interest groups hold Stellenbosch University hostageThe report into race relations at Stellenbosch University released this week has been dismissed by the DA for ‘scapegoating Afrikaans’. This is a mischaracterisation of a long and thoughtful report which could probably serve as a distillation of many of South Africa’s contemporary social problems. Whichever way you cut it people can be nonracial and still prefer to be at an institution that espouses their culture and language. People will always prefer being with those they can relate to. It's why immigrants form groups of people from their own communities. I don’t expect racists to easily admit to their misdeeds . No , not at all. For the first time , I have witnessed a resurgence of racism at a rather worrying level in SA . Racists are becoming more emboldened and aggressive. Travesty of our country . I see no reference to the rape of the white female student by a black male student in Majuba residence around the same time as the urination and law dance incidents, selective investigation or does it just not suit the narrative.........?
