Two Alabama high schools are getting new names.

Enter your email for weekly updates about Alabama schools from Trisha Powell Crain:

The Montgomery County Board of Education on Thursday reportedly voted to rename Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee high schools after a noted Black chemist, an Alabama judge who made influential rulings during the Civil Rights Era and two civil rights activists. In a 5-2 vote, the board approved renaming Jefferson Davis High School to Dr. Percy Julian High School and Robert E. Lee High School to JAG High School, after the first initial of the last names of civil rights activists Judge Frank Johnson, Ralph Abernathy and Robert Graetz, according toDavis was president of the Confederacy while Lee was a Confederate general. The push to rename both high schools began in 2020 during the nationwide protests of George Floyd’s death.

That’s what happens when you give up your boards. Oh, there’s more coming…

So we’re all supposed to take responsibility for the real or perceived wrongs of those who lived long before any of us were born and hold ourselves hostage to the fixations of a chronically unhappy few. We have bigger fish to fry.

If you love your children, enroll them in the most expensive private school you can afford.

Yep, just keep on giving, hand over fist till they start demanding with a gun.

Great work everyone- glad they are solving the most important issues Montgomery faces 🙄

So sad we give in trying to change the past- own it

elainaplott It’s about time!

One thing you can’t change is your genealogy. You may be able to rename a title but you’re only creating even more animosities.

Who are the 2 who voted against the change?

Need a story on Robert E Lee high school in Huntsville Alabama, James Clemons & Bob Jones high school in Madison Alabama. The fake christians in Madison Alabama are working on a triple crown. City Council member Ranae Bartlett gave a city coin to person who named James Clemons.

Will Huntsville & Madison Alabama schools follow? Robert E Lee (slaver), Bob Jones (segregationist) & James Clemons (trader of human flesh)? Sup. Dee Fowler pushed James Clemons. Hoover schools better watch him. Alabama schools ❤️ white supremacists! HooverSchools AlabamaFTBL

Well done.

Jeff Davis HS had 14% that met state reading standards and 13% that met state math standards. Now that the school board has got the name thing straight, perhaps they could examine why the school is failing it’s students. might even tweet about it.

I attended both- and am glad this is happening. Way to go Montgomery!!!

Anti Southern Bigots.

This is long overdue, and watching folks meltdown over it makes it all the sweeter.

One thing about they can change the name of the school. But it the New Montgomery so it full of thugs.

Historic Montgomery, Alabama has gotten its wishes. Time to move on....

Good.

Are they going to change the name of the South too?
