There is now a blue lock on the cap of the tank after thieves drained more than $2,000 of furnace oil from it. NICOLE SULLIVAN/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY — Health Park Early Learning Centre tried to turn their heat on for the first time Wednesday.

Director/owner Helen Mortimer said the cost of oil the day they had the refill was $2.29 per litre and estimates the cost was about $2,061. Mortimer said since they were robbed of the full tank of furnace oil, she heard of two other residents near Health Park who also had their furnace oil stolen. Mortimer said she didn't call the police because she didn't think there was much they could do. But she might file one so officers know the thefts are happening in their area.
