The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has indicated that the Federal Government may not fully pay university lecturers for the eighth months that the Academic Staff Union of Universities was on strike.

“The Executive position that it is not obligated to pay salaries to adoption of elements of the University Transparency and Accountability Solution into the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System. This effort is being supervised by the Chairman of the House Committee on Tertiary Education, Rep. Aminu Suleiman.

“The Executive position that it is not obligated to pay salaries to lecturers for the time spent on strike is premised on the law and the government’s legitimate interest in preventing moral hazard and discouraging disruptive industrial actions. Nonetheless, interventions have been made to explore the possibility of partial payments to the lecturers.

“Implementing meaningful change takes time, especially when appropriations and modifications to systems such as IPPIS are required. Therefore, I urge all parties to be patient and grant each other the presumption of goodwill to the extent necessary to achieve our shared objectives. This is not a time for political brinkmanship. There is no more pressing objective than to preclude the possibility of further disruptions to the academic calendar of the universities.

The Speaker recalled that three weeks ago, he called for a national conversation on the substantive reforms required to address the underlying issues bedevilling public tertiary education in Nigeria. “To that end, the House of Representatives is convening a National Summit on Tertiary Education Reform. We have called for papers and memoranda from members of the public. The submissions we receive and expert presentations at the Summit will inform our policy recommendations and actions,” he said.

Gbajabiamila urged all citizens and stakeholders to participate in “this crucial effort to reinvent our public tertiary institutions into respected citadels of learning.”All rights reserved. Supposing ASUU accepts that, and they hold onto the scripts they marked during the strike.

When Nigeria government be unable to pay lawmakers salary. Nigeria students will still vote APC, Are we goat 🐐👏

Imagine 😂

D's are people collecting full fat salary just for sleeping and approving foreign loan, now talking about equity and law.haaa oga oo

When is Nigeria ever going to pay political office holders half salary in this country, when?

Mini tinubu

This party na scam oooo

This is an associate of Tinubu. He deceive the academics. They can't be trusted.

But they paid you clowns when you went for over a month recess? Wicked souls!

Gbajabiamila is just talking nonsense nonsense

NO WORK, NO PAY. They should be paid for days they worked. If they wanna go on strike, they should, then, sack all of them. Afternoon they are not useful to our Universities. Money given for research, they all chop it.

'No work no pay policy' should be written boldly in Nigeria's constitution. So if any1 dares to be unreasonable and greedy will be crucified..

There is no problem if I were ASUU. Don't release any results within the period. Jump to new session. Anything about the 8 months should be discarded. You can't work it when you're not to be paid. Strike is not the option. FG and Ngige think in a foolish wise way. Education 😭

The Nigerian Problem is that we Nigerians as people, we are 'Terrible' Once a Government Policy favours us we tend to keep mute and whenever it doesn't we come out screaming Bad Government. Whereas, the only thing Bad is we Nigerians 😔

Can you saw what I seeeee🎶🎶🎶 Can you see what I saw hahaha🎶🎶🎶...me trying to sing it with pasuma voice 🤣🤣🤣

Animals plenty working with Buhari. Here is one of them.

Invitation to another problem

Any politician we make us as a lying about what is right and what is wrong or what is important in life

They made us to believe that education is the key and nothing can substitute it, why beign logical and political over this. Does the money belong to anyone. It is the government money.

Imagine this nonsense Kai this entire APC government are wicked people, but they can collect millions of naira when they don't show up at the house of representatives 🙄 hypocrites government

But you've been paid monthly for also not doing your job. Hypocrites

Is like FG are not sincere, are they willing to let go of the session lost so ASUU can start new academic year? Speaker Gbaja, you should play the role you intervened otherwise step-down and Ngige & Adamu complete their work. Lack of Trust is the bedrock this administration.

Let this people not start again. Give our money to help our children to be in schools after all, theirs are in schools too.

During your dialogue with assu you assured them of payment, why are you now towing the line of your party? Bad leadership quality? I wonder.

The problem is not about the FG now. The question is does Asuu agree with this terms?

Make una continue dey destroy our education sector.... It is obvious blacks race are just not intelligent! Education is the most critical sector in any society in the world but our criminals called leaders are working hard to destroy what is left of ours

Their should be no reason,Federal Government should pay ASUU their complete salary, what’s wrong 😑 with this nuisance Government?
