Memorial University Sea-Hawks women’s soccer team winger Kate Hickey won the 2022 Atlantic University Sport student-athlete community service award for her work on the pitch and away from it. She will now be the Atlantic conference’s nomination for the USPORTS community service award.
Away from Memorial, Hickey volunteers her time weekly to the Big Brothers Big Sisters, where she mentors youth who identify as girls or non-binary in areas like physical activity, balanced eating and self-esteem. She also serves meals at the Gathering Place and volunteers with Eastern Health. The other all-star selection went to fifth-year goalkeeper Sydney Walsh, who was named an AUS second-team all-star.
Felly Elonda, a third-year midfielder, was named a first-team all-star for his season. In 12 games with Memorial, Elonda picked up three goals and an assist.
