TOP STORY: Province to table back-to-work legislation for Ontario's 55,000 education workers today

The Ontario Public School Boards’ Association , which represents English public district school boards and public school authorities across Ontario, said their "top priority is to negotiate a fair collective agreement, that is fully-funded, and in the best interest of our students."Four major parent groups in Ontario have come together to lend their support for the province’s 55,000 education workers, even if they go on strike on Friday.

“I know that education workers are fighting to improve public schools for all our children. They are bargaining to achieve our shared goals for thriving healthy school communities and for a decent wage and working conditions,” the letter reads. Already signed by upwards of 3,000 parents, the letter calls on the provincial government to put a designated early childhood educator in every kindergarten classroom, hire more educational assistants, DECEs, child and youth workers, etc. to “better meet student needs,” and ensure there are enough clerical workers “to run schools safely and smoothly.”

“Parents want the same thing that education workers do: Children growing, learning and thriving in safe, healthy schools, and that means we need more education workers in each school, with decent wages. Ford and Lecce need to stop forcing kids out of school by refusing to meet the very reasonable demands of education workers,” said Jessica Lyons, a Toronto parent of three elementary school children, said in an Oct. 31 news release.

I need my daughter to stay in school. I hope they can work something out!

Hey : It's not 'back to work' legislation. It's a strikebreaking law that over-rides Charter Rights and imposes a contract.

They’re not AWAY from work you hacks.

It’s not “back to work” legislation. It’s imposing a contract. Two very different things. Usually with “back to work” legislation, the negotiations that broke down go to arbitration to get sorted out. But this govt doesn’t want that - because CUPE is right - their offer is shit.

not back to work legislation. imposing a 4 year contract while overriding the charter and denying workers their lawful right to collectively bargain

The notwithstanding clause cannot be used in this matter.CUPE can strike legally as the Ford regimes efforts will be struck down as null and void

If you believe education workers provide essential services then legislate them back to work with binding arbitration not the 'notwithstanding' clause. Perhaps subpoenas should be 'notwithstanding' parliamentary privilege.

Before they even leave work? That’s ironic…

FordMustGo

Lecce and Ford were never willing to negotiate. Only legislate with a non withstanding clause: COWARD! Onterrible just got even worse. onted ontedsolidarity

Ontario has been held hostage by a bunch of parasites who have no problem overriding charter freedom, and this is the headline. Try writing a story about this instead:

Walking in an empty school 🏫 🤡🤡

fordnation is holding children hostage to distract you from the fact that he can't testify at the EA hearings without committing perjury.

This is not back to work legislation.

FatAndSkinny

Oh look...it's Goofy and Porky Pig!!

This is that I don't understand Doug Ford I understand you cannot legislate them to work when they not on strike yet

They are AT work! Obviously the government had no real intention of negotiating in good faith this week when they are focusing on striping bargaining rights instead of coming to the table.

The teachers who bitch about everything ought to get to work instead of crying like babies ss if they dont get paid enough!

Everyone get ready for the Ontario government to pay in the excess of a $250 million lawsuit coming there way for an unlawful back to work legislation. And then some ontarians will thank them for it. Lol

I support the EA's on this. The govt needs to give these people a raise that's in line with the cost of living. 45k doesn't cut it. These people will find other jobs. Kids are ultimately impacted and the Govt is showing they don't give a shit.

IStandWithCUPE

Canadians have the RIGHT to organize and negotiate collectively. This ON government is violating fundamental Charter Rights. Ford & Lecce’s abuse of power is shameful and, I believe, will prove to be illegal.

Hey Sflecce time to stop taking raises for yourself what about us we deserve better then you Bs offer shame

Hahahaha what a phat greedy phuck - this country is run by demonic self serving global sell outs just like that goof.

Walk out and fight for the wage and rights you deserve, sometimes you have to sacrifice some to gain in the future and make it better for new workers coming into the field . Nothing is gained easily, you have to fight for your rights and make a better place for newcomers .

Can someone ask Ford & Lecce to trade wages & jobs for a day! See how long they last, how they enjoy diapering teenagers, feeding, restraining, getting hit,bit & spat on etc Ensuring the safety of that child & others. Doing multiple jobs bcuz of under staffing 39kIsNotEnough

I love how the union was shocked they didn’t get the 11.7% per YEAR salary bump for 3 years. Like wholly fuck, gotta be reasonable. When you start with an unreasonable ask, of course there is little room to meet in the middle.

Good!

It’s not “back to work” legislation since they’ve never left work. They are talking about using the Notwithstanding clause. That’s a violation of Charter Rights. That is Fascism Doug’s not even hiding his intentions anymore

Teachers don’t care about the students just like how the govt doesn’t care about the people. It’s all about the “me, me, me”

Ah look the the PC PARTIES own media brand pretends they are relevant. CP 24 is wholly owned by the facist party by way of Harper, Harris, Mulroney, ford, Moe.. Etc. They in effectively built more than one RW ECHO chamber. True north, rumble, rebel etc all fiancee by foreign $$

Unions are dirty

They have not left work, they are working today. This is fordnation Sflecce out of control acting in their best interest not Ontario’s. Bullies & thugs who will pay the price in jail for stealing our $s. DougFordIsACriminal NeverEverVoteConservative

Back to work They haven’t stopped working! This is Lecce & Ford refusing to pay a livable wage, then stripping those underpaid workers of their rights when they fight back. FordMustGo LecceHatesKids

Interesting though Fred has been a union employee 15years....has he ever been on strike pay....

What if everyone catches Covid? Can’t work if you’re sick 🤷🏼‍♂️

Strikes are a legal right in Ontario!! CUPE says that the education support workers will defy the legislation. The strike can begin this Friday.

They love using the term “education workers” so the public assumes it’s teachers who are striking because they know the public will be far less sympathetic than if they correctly identified the people they were screwing over.

Good! Support Sflecce fordnation traviskann

Doug needs to lose some serious weight obesity will kll u

Good.

Here he comes showing off his six pack 💪🏻

When is this guy losing weight?

Imposing a contract on ETFOeducators in 2012. This will cost us hundreds of millions between 2030-2035. How does this make fiscal sense?

Same thing everyone wanted during the lockdowns

Husband and wife

Two buffoons. Doug barely finished high school himself!!

Your freedoms are slowly being taken away people.

My children do not need any more disruptions. I wish things were like the old days where a parent could afford to stay home and school a child. Now it's hard enough to make ends meet on two pay checks let alone one. Just another example of how JT and Freeland are helping Cdns.

How can it be back to work? Why don’t you report on the millions of dollars this government is hoarding instead of supporting education and healthcare? That would be good journalism as opposed to this crap

Back to work, you mean Ford is legislating himself to be present at all times in the house of representatives and work, hahahahahaha fat chance

Are Ontario teachers considered essential workers? If not, Ontario government should not be preemptively introducing back to work legislature since they legally have a right to strike.

Masks? Really? I guess they didn't get the memo that world has moved on from this stupid practice.

Further evidence that the modern Conservative has zero regard for democracy or workers rights.

We're not even on strike yet

Can't negotiate with greedy teachers demanding too much so that's good

“Journalism”? They’re at work. How can it be back to work legislation if they’re not out?

You mean stripping workers of their right to strike.

wildcatwalkout

Dictatorship

Let's outsource the work and let the market take care of it- simple. No more using kids as hostages

artisteashlei They’ll try anything to break the union.

He has “no other choice”? He can go back to the table and negotiate fairly. You don’t take away workers’ rights to strike because it doesn’t fit the narrative you are trying to sell. You go back and you really TRY to reach a FAIR deal.

fordnation Sflecce TWO SLIMY CRIMINALS

Another appalling abuse of power by the Ford government. It's what we've come to expect, unfortunately.

ONTARIO GOING DOWN fordnation KNOWS NO BOTTOM

baloney and banana oil. you can’t have back-to-work legislation for people who haven’t even left work. This is just the government’s failure to negotiate in good faith.

Ironic how so many responses are talking about violations of charter rights. So many of you were in support of just that over the past two years. Congratulations. You made this happen. Sadly you will probably not understand the connection.

So the whole bargaining process is just a show? The government can do whatever it wants?

FireLecce 39kIsNotEnough

Just pay them fair wages.

it kinda odd how many side with Dougie and freinds .. theyve proven to be upstanding representatives of the ON govt

How can it be back to work if they haven’t even gone on strike yet? Negotiations should be continuing but this is a threatening approach designed to intimidate and it’s a disgusting abuse of power fordnation Sflecce

Good do it. This comes from a nurse who is exhausted after the last 2 years and we can’t strike. My kids need to go to school. I’m sorry they don’t make enough, neither do I. But kids need school

BREAKING: Province to DICTATE back-to-work legislation for Ontario's 55,000 education workers today

I want people who are undermining educational worker’s work, they need to come and do our jobs for few hours, getting injured by special kids, running behind them, get bitten by them, supporting kids with learning, treating like low class by others, no respect from community

The irony.

Ontario is the outhouse of politics in Canada. Quebec is the latrine.

They should still walk out, Sflecce doesn’t want to play fair they shouldn’t either

Renata and her children deserved better. On what planet would you expect Ford would make the school equal footing. Those boots were not made for walking.

this is sad ….why cannot they give workers fair raise ….look at the inflation…..how can they raise their families with 1.5% raise ….all these politicians make so much money …how come no one question on their salaries

Get rid of the current staff and hire staff that actually wants to work and actually cares about the kids. These Ontario teachers have held kids hostage for to long

BIG BULLIES

Why are those two 🤡 wearing masks?

Dictators will be Dictators.

Govt implementing back to work legislation is them neglecting accountability. If these workers, weren't so important to the system & dont deserve the pay entitlement, than let them walk off. Arrogance again by our 'leaders'.

Instead of trying to work with them, find a solution, strong arming them back to work has worked so many times before. We teach our kids about collaboration, team work, equality and fairness. when will the adults listen to their own advice. once again students are being impacted.

What if they just don't go back in? 👀

Work or get fired.

“Looks like grade ten all over again, all over again, all over again, eh Doug?”

Despicable fordnation Sflecce

The phrase you're looking for is 'Union Busting'.

About time

Another year and another Halloween under Doug Ford LecceHatesKids FordsMandateLetterForPrivateEducation

Screw this! A strike is the only answer. It is important to keep kids out of school after they have hade the two worst years of education in the history of public education. Use them as a bargaining chip the longer the strike lasts the greater the chance of getting more $

How can it be “back-to-work” if the workers are currently at work? (I just saw my son’s EA at dropoff). I think what you mean is fordnation is going to take away workers’ right to strike because he’s too afraid of what a disaster that would be for his govt 39KIsNotEnough onted

Wrong move. Ontario is firmly behind its teachers and want them paid well.

yes... we screwed over kids for two years. public sector unions dont think thats long enough.

rexglacer Your too fat to fly

Education workers should NOT be allowed to strike, it's like holding ppl ransom. Any essential worked should not be allow to strike. fordnation

AdvocacyWarrior Would not be surprised at all to see the root direction burried within the mandate letters the Ford government has fought to keep hidden from the public. ReleaseTheMandateLetters

Unless it's tabled AFTER the strike begins, it's NOT 'back to work' legislation, it's a violation of their charter rights.

If Ford does this to school janitors, he’ll do this next to teachers and healthcare workers. Time for a GeneralStrike - for yourself. For everyone. Solidarity

They. Are. Still. Working.

Excellent. Don't like it, QUIT.

GOOD! It's sickening how these unions hold our kids educations hostage to get their demands met.

Don’t let ford bully education workers into a unfair deal! Stand up and support them! We have the right to legally protest and Strike ! Don’t show up to work! We all need to work a Together to tie his hands

I hope they strike... Regardless of what happens.

Haven't gone on strike yet. 🤔

Oh the irony. Ford government run buy a guy who never shows up for work to table back to work legislation.

How can you table ‘back-to-work’ legislation when they haven’t gone on strike yet? Wouldn’t they need to table ‘stay-at-work’ legislation?

And so it begins…

This is completely unacceptable and illegal. All Ontarian’s need to take notice, more importantly, need some collective actions. wildcatwalkout

DictatorDoug dougford cupe Halloween 👇👇👇

If there not happy at that job . Then change it . Tims is always hiring ? But that may mean you would have to work 2 jobs ) Its called hard work I know many that work 2 jobs

School vouchers NOW! End the collosally corrupt and incredibly incompetent public education systems. They're teaching kids to hate, and deny reality.

Dofo stop trampling peoples rights to a negotiated contract, ots their right.

Most corrupt gov ever DougFordMustResign fordnation Sflecce

Good. Kids deserve to stay in school after the last 2 years.

1.5% raise over 4 years & cut in sick days is an insult to education workers. Lecce got a 16% raise, makes over $160K and only shows up for Question Period 50% of the time. The mandate they want to keep secret is obviously to kill unions that protect workers from exploitation.

Look at these two doobies walking the halls of a school as if either of them actually care for students or every member education worker..

i wonder just how strong dougie's urge is to shove lecce into one of those lockers like the old days?

A Toonie a loonie and a quarter, $3.25 is all they are asking for.

Zero reagards for workers and their collective bargaining rights.

it's nit 'back to work' if they haven't left yet. It's 'preemptive anti-democratic legislation'

Caption: 'I used to deal drugs in a place like this.'

My Premier 🙌🏿 🙌🏿 🙌🏿 and Education Minister 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 Get their asses back to work(before they even strike)!!!!!

The province needs to cough up the money and then everyone is happy. Kids are in school, education workers get a livable wage.

Ontario time to strike! We need better health care and education!

rexglacer And rightly so

Who's selfish? The Bully sitting on a HUGE SURPLUS refusing to give Education Workers a Fair Salary... That's who! DougFordIsABully

*forced labour legislation

FordFailedOntario never had any intention of bargaining on good faith. This has been his plan all along.

Nice headline. And how can we be legislated back when we haven’t walked out yet? Maybe try “Province tramples on collective bargaining rights”?

While you are at it.....WHY not table back to work legislation for HEALTHCARE workers terminated over a failed vaccine? I think most would agree that a collapsing healthcare system is more of a danger to the security of OUR society.

You can bet had the Liberal/NDP won the election, they’d happily comply with those 12% annual increases to their union friends - and bankrupt the province.

I have never seen in my life someone table back to work legislation before a strike ever occurs this is a form of bullying and why would they negotiate in fairness knowing they would do this beware all unions

Welcome to be treated like a nurse in this province

I am not familiar with labor laws but why is it legal to impose a contract on teachers? Why negotiate then and not just impose from the beginning?

It is very obvious that collective bargaining in this sector needs a complete make over !

👏FordNation you are awesome, keep up the good work.

Here is an excellent understanding of what CUPE is asking.

BC avoided a strike all together

Happy with the work Doug Ford and leece are doing

Good.

welcome to a privatized Ontario run by a dictator

How can it be called back to work legislation when they have never left work. Shouldn’t it be called legislation that violates their collective bargaining rights? Or “Lecce is a POS who won’t pay a decent raise legislation” ?

Funny how everyone is against this! But no one wants to have their taxes increased to pay for the wage increase. Cannot have have it both ways.

I wonder how many education workers, stuck in this crisis, voted for Ford? Somebody had to have voted for the Premier.

Disgusting fordnation sflecce

THIS IS WHY WE NEED TO VOTE IN ELECTIONS!!!!!!

Jerks.

Sounds like essential workers and you know what that means?

“For the people.”

Cowards.

Good! Of course they'll scream, cry and throw temper tantrums like whiny little children. But this legislation doesn't go far enough. Now the next step is to declare all education workers an essential service and take away their right to strike permanently. Enough is enough.

Inevitably costing tax payers millions in settlements when they’re eventually sued for an illegal violation of charter rights. Insulting is an understatement.

Umm yeah last time the Libs were in charge (Dalton) he totally screwed over education workers so don’t make this a con issue. Keep the kids in school and pay the people a decent wage it’s not rocket science.

They haven’t stopped working. Heading is wrong. How about Dictator premier decides to table legislation in a bid to strip workers of collective bargaining and impose contract.

Good 👍

Lawyers out there, is this lawful?

It’s not “Back to work legislation” since they haven’t even spent one day on the picket line. It’s a legislated contract and an infringement of their Charter rights to bargain. It will be another lost court case for Ford. please report this more accurately.

Strike strike strike

Good. We should jail.any that refuse to follow the order

Sflecce amd fordnation want to dismantle the education system . If we let them do this without a fight, we are giving up Rights to strike and further harming education in Ontario. Let CUPEOntario Have their right to negotiate fairly . 39kIsNotEnough

look at those tiny hands not a box lifted in their whole lives between the two of them

good job Mr. Ford 👍

Or perhaps “Ford stripping workers of their collective bargaining rights despite claiming he is for the worker” But you do you PC24 onted onpoli

Just pay them! The money wasted on buttering up voters with 200$ a kid would have gone a long way to giving them the raise they deserve

“Ontario Conservatives earning six figure salaries to completely undermine the collective bargaining process and illegally force an unfair contract on 55,000 education working.” I fixed your headline.

It isn't back to work legislation....it is legislation to impose a 4 year contract. Imposing a contract is illegal and.against the charter of rights. Write the real story.

Back to work There hasn't been a strike. This is blatant union busting. This should be resisted.

People need to realize that this isn’t the first time it’s been done and it’s been don’t by the liberals as well this isn’t just a conservative idea….

Back in 2012 the Conservatives tried to 'negotiate' by legislation. That attempt backfired and they ended up paying over $100 million in damages, and having to have a fair negotiation anyway. I expect this attempt will end the same way, but not before wasting a ton of money!

Dictators!!!!

Why is the province not coming up with a better deal? It does not have to be 11%. It could be a 3 or 4 % raise. They need to give them something. Cupe needs to bring their demands down and the province has to increase the counter offer.

Provoking a wild cat?

The fact they’re taking about it and today will do it suggests their lawyers feel they will win/delay long enough… who are the experts we need so we can stuff this back down fordnation throat like a hot dog at Ford fest

rexglacer Good! These greedy unions have hurt kids and families too many times in the past. Never let them strike again.

It's not back to work legislation - they are imposing contacts which is a violation of charter rights - do better

As the people paying MPP salaries, and who they say they work for.... Can we legislate their contracts so they make a wage that reflects the work they do? Maybe per hour instead of salary, so they only get paid if they're actually working?

Never been a fan of back to work legislation

Go on strike regardless, force their hand.

For those wondering, this is what a first world country sliding into the 2nd world looks like. Another attribute is no police service for property crimes. We are past that already

Who let the dogs out?

I hope they all walk out in solidarity to show Fat Ford who he works for!

So sick of these populist frauds calling themselves 'conservatives'.

Look at those two tough guys walk-in the school halls. Who let them in?

education, healthcare, and many other things have been under siege for more the 27 years since Mike Harris was the Conservative Premier of Ontario.

Good. Stop using my kids as pawns. There is nothing more entitled than a teacher

Hopefully they all take sick leave!

Is this democracy? Everyone needs to ask this question. Of course no one wants teachers to strike after such a disruptive last two years. But to legislate people back to work is treating human beings like robots. There concerns do not matter

Thank you fordnation Sflecce

Putting the CON back in conservative. You get what you elect.

Pretty wierd for Lecce to go into a school with pants so tight you can see his cock.

Is this a 'look over there' Doug Ford tactic to avoid testifying at the Emergencies Act inquiry?

DougFord and his Conservatives, will try to prevent 55,000 People from striking as is their right to do so. isn't that what dictatorships do to their populations? both Tories Conservatives Grits Liberals have damaged education!

I think this government is forgetting who education workers are. We’re in this fight to win, we’re not stopping no matter what! We’re standing up to bullies! 39kIsNotEnough

All Walk 😜QUIT IF YOU MUST , THE FORD GOVERNMENT ARE FRAUDS 🤡

How about a headline like this. 'Province to table illegal back to work legislation for Ontarios 55,000 education workers today.'

Will walk out Friday regardless

They haven't left work yet?! Back to work, would imply they've actually left!

Ontario to table legislation to prevent education worker strike: MinisterOntario's education minister intends to introduce legislation Monday that will avert a looming support staff strike and impose a contract on them, a proposition the union said it is prepared to fight. Nice, kneecap themselves at the negotiating table while playing tough for your supporters Great. Now it will go to arbitration which historically costs taxpayers more in the end.
