Authorities recovered a loaded gun at Rowlett High School on Friday and detained three students after another student reported being assaulted on campus, police say.
About 10:50 a.m., the student reported the assault to Rowlett police assigned as resource officers at the school in the 4700 block of President George Bush Highway, police said. The student told officers one of the attackers brandished a handgun and that he was pistol-whipped with it. He had minor injuries, police said.
The high school was placed on “secure and hold” for about three and a half hours, meaning that students remained in their classrooms while Rowlett police and Garland ISD officers investigated. Additional officers were placed outside the school, police said. About 2:15 p.m., officers detained the three students on charges of aggravated assault, who were taken to Dallas County’s juvenile detention center.
