Daily News | William Penn Charter picks first female leader in its centuries-long history

Karen Warren Coleman, who was named head of school at William Penn Charter School, in class with a student during her visit last week to campus.Last week marked an historic first for William Penn Charter, a highly selective pre-K-12 independent private school in Philadelphia that has the distinction of being the first Quaker school in the world.

Coleman was selected from among 40 candidates, four whom were chosen to visit the school with an enrollment of about 991.A native of the Bronx who got her doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania, Coleman has 25 years experience in elementary, secondary and higher education, the school said.
