The Calgary Board of Education has prided itself on its evolving digital citizenship curriculum, teaching students as early as elementary about the importance of appropriate social media use and the use of mobile devices and the internet at school.
CBE spokeswoman Joanne Anderson added that incidents like these are taken seriously and are fully investigated to ensure the safety and security of students and staff. “Our schools are places of learning, and everyone in the school community plays an important role in creating and maintaining a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe environment.”
Anderson also confirmed that digital citizenship is covered in courses such as social studies, as well as health and life skills classes.
