OAKLAND — An Oakland high school football player who was seriously injured in a game Friday night has been released from the hospital, his coach said Monday.
Freshman lineman Tevita Likio is doing well and recovering at home, Oakland High coach Brandon Allen told the Bay Area News Group in a text. The player suffered head and neck injuries during a punt return in the third quarter of Oakland’s game against Castlemont,Firefighters and EMTs were called to the school located at 1023 MacArthur Blvd. but took a while to get onto the field because of vehicles that were blocking entry points, Castlemont offensive coordinator Omar Kharroub said.
It took about an hour for the injured player to get transported out of the school, according to Kharroub.Likio will be out for the rest of the season, Allen said.
