Despite the roadblocks, highlighted by surgery for a sports hernia that ultimately required two follow-up surgeries to fix, Corrales has stayed positive. He believes the mental side of things is what ultimately separates players, and now that he’s in his final college season, he’s hoping his physical health can match, allowing him to show more than just glimpses of his ability.
Corrales had surgery to mend his sports hernia, but a few months before the start of the 2021 season, he had to go in for a second surgery. Once fall camp arrived, there was still some pain leftover. Corrales was given steroid injections for two weeks. During that time, he felt great and practiced well, he said, but in the back of his mind he wondered: were the steroids fixing the issue or just hiding the pain.
At one fall practice, with his family in attendance, he did just that, making an incredible leaping catch over tight coverage. He looked like the Corrales of old. The next play, he tried to make another tough catch, but landed awkwardly on his shoulder.“I was grateful to have them around,” Beau said.Corrales was in a sling for the rest of fall camp and it wasn’t known when he would return to the field. Then, before the TCU game, he started practicing.
