The Nigerian Government on Tuesday registered two academic unions, the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA). This comes as the government and the main umbrella body of university lecturers, the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) have been at loggerheads regarding a 2009 FG/ASUU Agreement on the funding of university education, which the government has failed to fully implement.

Nigerian Government Moves To Reduce Power Of Striking University Lecturers, ASUU, Registers Two Varsity Academic UnionsThe Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, said they will exist along aside ASUU.

This comes as the government and the main umbrella body of university lecturers, the Academic Staff Union Of Universities have been at loggerheads regarding a 2009 FG/ASUU Agreement on the funding of university education, which the government has failed to fully implement. ASUU has been on strike since February 14 to press home its demands. The strike was embarked upon due to the inability of the Federal Government to renegotiate the agreement it signed with ASUU in 2009 including adequate funding of the system, and replacement of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System , with the UTAS, as the payment platform in the university sector.

As you plan to reduce power of ASUU going to strike make sure you also reduce the frequent visit to UK for medical checkup, reduce the amount of politicians children schooling abroad, reduce the cost of leaving

A failed government, instead of fixing the problem, they want to go round it. APC all round failure.

This is in line with the provisions of section 5(4) of the Trade Union Act, and also the position of the courts in Nigerian Nurses Association & Ors. v. A.G.F (Suit No. 69/1980, delivered on 6th Nov. 1981); and Erasmus Osawe &Ors. v.The Registrar of Trade Union (1985) 5S.C.p.343.

The registration of CONUA/NAMDA is in breach of the Trade Union Act in that there is already a registered trade union (ASUU), being a union that sufficiently represents the interest of the class of persons whose interest the new unions are intending to represent.

Government should strike ASUU please 🙏

Divide and rule is not the best option for the Education sector. The HATE YOU GIVE WILL SURELY AFFECTS EVERYBODY. Think about it.

Shame on Mr president failing us as leader elected is that the solution or is it because his certificate has question make?

British-taught, time-honored Divide and Rule Strategy
