Students struggling with impact of cost of living crisis

Students are facing financial and mental health concerns as soaring prices take a toll on their wellbeing, a survey has suggested.

The survey, run by the website Save The Student, suggested four in five had considered the prospect of dropping out of university."This is the most worried I've ever been about the financial situation students are facing," said Save The Student's Jake Butler. Rent is by far the largest outgoing for students, followed by groceries. Living costs have seen a 14% increase since last year's survey, according to the responses, with the average student now spending £924 per month.of 9.9%, which tracks how the cost of living changes over time. Save The Student suggested that a typical maintenance loan in England fell £439 short of covering these costs every month.

Of those who were worried about making ends meet, some 59% said their mental health had suffered, and 64% said their social life had taken a hit.One student, who wished to remain anonymous, told the BBC that finding accommodation covered by the maintenance loan was impossible.

There's enough spare time for students at university to get a part time job..

Don't worry about debt...Worry about WWIII Which the leaders of many govts are running head long into in the name of money and profits and ideology

Unfortunately, it affects all shifts, except the large pool of the rich!

£9,000 a year tuition fees don't help. While the corporate conglomerates and celebrities/sports person's evade billions every year in taxes Students CostOfLivingCrisis

Tories hate an educated electorate

Some simple tips for students: Don’t waste money on alcohol excess. Don’t waste money meal bashes. Instead, actually study, that is what they are supposed to be there for.

My daughters maintenance loan doesn’t even cover her rent.

Well what did anyone think would happen when every man/woman ends up in university for Micky mouse degrees. it used to be a road to a better life, education now is purely big business.

Anyone else use the book “Grub on a Grant”? It was very bean based!! 😳

The BBC hates white people.

Not a great read the day we take our daughter to University.Kate06436947

Everyone is. Tory policy supported by a compliant media

Students have always been doing part time work to help them through. The one thing I don't remember when I was young was gap year. WTF. How can anyone afford to take a yaer off. 😮🤔

Only black students…?

And here they are……struggling.

Cost of living crisis for so many.

BBCr4today guardian From Sir Keith Joseph onwards, moves to privatise education, rather than seeing it as a right and offerring free grants to cover all costs including living, housing and study, has informed a load of debt, a wrong culture and harmed would be beneficiaries.

The comments on here neglect the fact that most students at university level are in full time education. The balance between work and learning is a difficult one and what we end up with is only rich kids being able to put the time into university education.

Good old BBC with their box ticking photos.

Yep, low earner struggling with house, energy and food prices. It's OK, Truss is sending another 2 to 3 billion to Ukraine. That will bring the prices down 😏

Could we show a white student as well, otherwise it looks like only black students are struggling, or we are in a predominantly Black Country which is what you seem to show when interviewing people 🤔🤨🤨

When I was a student I got a job. Why can’t they or they here on student visas. Then not our problem.

Something trussliz hasn’t and isn’t really doing much overall to solve, boosting the economy won’t happen overnight in the meantime real everyday people suffer and struggle to afford the basics to survive
