The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has disclosed its plan to embark on a nationwide protest over the government’s failure to address the lingering strike action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other staff unions. This was made known in a circular signed by the union president, Usman Umar Barambu and dated Monday, September 19, 2022. In the circular, Barambu directed all zonal coordinators and students' unions of various schools to mobilise their members for the massive action.

In the circular, Barambu directed all zonal coordinators and students' unions of various schools to mobilise their members for the massive action. "You will agree with me that on the 14th day of February 2022, the Academic Staff Union of University embarked on an indefinite warning strike which has led to various phases of striking activities for the past seven months, due to ASUU and FG's inability to resolve their issues, Hence, after proper consultation I am directing all Zonal, JCC and SUG structures to align with the following schedule of event below: 1. Monday Zone D 19th-20th September, 20224.

"1 Comr. Usman Umar Barambu the President of NANS will co-ordinate the National Shut down," the circular added.
