Ndengetho High School pupils in KwaZulu-Natal allegedly set fire to several classrooms after police confiscated about 400 phones during a spot search on Thursday. Provincial education department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said police were called in to search the children for drugs and weapons, when they also found cellphones, which are also prohibited at the school, west of Durban.

The pupils were told the police would keep the cellphones at the police station, as they would not fit in the school’s safe and it was unsafe to keep so many phones on school premises. “When the police left, the pupils thought the teachers were soft targets, and then they torched the school building,” Mahlambi said.“Pupils were able to return to school today [on Monday] to write their examination.”

Why confiscate learners cellphones. Is DOE not heading towards use of tablets in schools.

Whilst there are induvidual cases of goodness, this SA majority youth (on the whole) are a lost cause. They are generally entitled, undisciplined and do whatever they want. This is because their parents treat them as 'special' and refuse to give them a good hiding.

We don't need no education...

ProudlyMsTee They learnt this lesson from the Adults that looted the Shops last year July...

The future is shining brighter and brighter.

What if the kid has to use Uber to get home? Why did they take their phones?

Pretty soon KZN will have nothing left 🤷🏽‍♀️

Well these kids see some “politicians” encouraging people to burn things if there is something they don’t like, like in July last year. So they do the same. We are never going to progress as a country if we don’t address this type of behaviour. End.

Destined to be useless, unemployable, uneducated, grant parasites like their scumbag parenys

One hopes tax payers WILL NOT be expected to refurbish this school - let the parents do the hard work along with their illbred offspring if they want it repaired or they can simply forego their right to any future education 👆

Leave it burnt

Kids were wrong to burn the schools n parents must foot the bill Arrests must be made we have juvenile prisons SAPoliceService what were you doing with kids phone? Ave ningamabully yaz amaforeigner ayaninyathela ningenzi nex then u go n bully school kids sies man

...a fish rots from the head downwards...bad leadership permeates to the entire nation...

What were the cops search for if after the search the pupils still had Matches on them. What was the purpose of the search?

What were the police doing with kids phones instead of dealing with the problem we are facing of illegal immigrants ,zama zamas and drugs?

This is exactly the example that South Africans get from their parents looks like everything is turning out to be shit

So the SAPoliceService couldn’t stop pupils from burning classrooms. Did they leave or stand and watch as they usually do.

And what consequences are they facing? I'm not holding my breath.

Makes sense... Like it or not, the police should never be used to enforce school rules and regulations. Seems like teachers don't know how to deal with students anymore. You suspend for breaking rules, and the expel... Let the parents deal with their own incompetence

Look at the classroom set-up of the public school, tell me where is the chalkboard there, I doubt there is electricity there, how is teaching and learning takes place here, and at the end DOE expect higher pass rate at the end of the year.

crimemind3 Well, for a start the police had no authority to confiscate the phones. It is a school regulation and not a crime. That the teachers asked/allowed the police to do so is evidence that they have no power or authority over the learners and at the school. From there it’s all a popo.

Well, their real teachers live among them in their communities. Send them to jail for a week or two, and not together.

kriswentzel9 And the result will be an very low pass rate. discipline

Rep of SHITHOLANDIA

This kids don't want to be educated because of poor parenting at home

This is the sick society the ANC have bred..

The entire generation lacks discipline, full of entitlement and they are too spoilt.

More unemployable youths about to enter the space next year.

As one does.

Again KZN

This type of conduct will inevitably become more common. These kids see destruction & vandalism being used to illustrate “unhappiness” so are simply doing the same. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Learning from their destructive and looting parents … what does one expect 🤷🏽‍♂️
