Christian Epps scores South Houston's first touchdown Saturday night. He would tack on a second touchdown in helping his teammates win in the rain 34-0.If this were a typical high school football night, there would have been plenty of spotlight on South Houston’s point total.
But three interceptions and one fumble recovery later, South Houston was celebrating its first win of the new campaign with a 34-0 non-district victory over Houston Sterling. Chris Pena, Nathan Rosales and Aaron Escareno collected the interceptions, giving South Houston now five picks for the season, which likely ranks near the top for the state. Rosales’ pick came in the end zone and it set up South Houston’s fourth touchdown, a 10-play march that covered 80 yards.
Offensively, South Houston had a 21-0 advantage just five seconds into the second quarter, all but deciding the issue. When the rain was at its heaviest, the Trojans used their first possession to motor a good distance, resulting in a short Christian Epps touchdown run. Epps had some terrific runs prior to that, but there was also 20 yards worth of Houston Sterling penalties.
