Back2School Bash drew more than 1,000 people to the local community center Saturday, with volunteers providing free music, food, games and school supplies for those in attendance.
"They are so good at what they do and also very friendly, so you can’t help but show up," said Lee Kinzy, a resident in the Seattle area. The Rainier Beach Action Coalition was on hand to give away the backpacks and school supplies to long lines of students. Donnelly-Lyons was also vendor at the event and works for the Tiny Tots Development Center. She said the cost of school supplies is stressful for many and has strained her own family's budget as well.
