A former provincial cabinet minister in the Darrell Dexter government, Paris said zero-tolerance policies and codes of conduct are good, but they need to be backed with a message that’s delivered off the ice. “If we’re going to advance the causes of the human race, sadly we need organizations like that,” he said adding that it’s unlikely the end is near for racism and intolerance in hockey. “I know what my hockey experience has been. I know what that hockey experience for many of those that are different, what it is today. I don’t think I’ll live to see the difference.”
