President Joe Biden is expected to make an annoucement Wednesday to forgive up to $10,000 for Americans with federal student loan debt.

Borrowers earning less than $125,000 a year would be eligible for the loan forgiveness, sources close to the decision told theDemocrats have criticized the plan calling for broader relief, while moderates and Republicans question its fairness. People familiar with the Biden administration's plan told thethat the president is expected to announce an extension on the payment freeze that would last until January. Student loan payments were initially paused in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic during former President Donald Trump's administration. Biden has repeatedly extended the pause since starting his term in the White House.
