Q. What’s the cause of this problem? Why aren’t there enough teachers?
So the working conditions are challenging, the politics are challenging, there are other more desirable fields to enter into, and when you have all that besides a pandemic, that’s a pretty volatile mix for attrition rates. A. A teacher who’s been highly effective, who’s still very enthusiastic about their building and their principal and who hasn’t been doing this for 30 yearsI don’t think those are the people we’re talking about. We’re talking about the teachers who are maybe a couple years away from retirement, and this is speeding that up. Those are the teachers the pandemic has maybe pushed over the edge.
Q. Florida is recruiting veterans without the typically required bachelor’s degree, as you mentioned. Other states are also relaxing the certification rules to make it easier to be a teacher. What will be the effect on students who are already struggling if we can’t find teachers in areas like math or special ed?
And then we need to come up with ways to lower the financial barrier to entry. It is not reasonable to ask a teacher to take on $40,000 worth of debt and then go teach for $40,000 or less annually, which is what the starting salary in most states is. We need to think about acquisition of talent and development completely differently, and much more like they think about it in effective charter networks and in the corporate world.
Ah, pay them a living wage. Than maybe they would teach.
Educators are the punching bag for everything and are treated like complete garbage by the communities they serve. Plus forced to pay into a pension system…not given a choice…and suckered into being union members. Screwed by both sides of the political aisle. No thanks.
They don't want to be blamed for the ills of society by parents who couldn't even care for a pet.
Don’t discount the simple fact of boomer retirement. We were a big generation. Our absence leaves a big hole to fill.
Who needs teachers. The barking parents obviously know more. Those geniuses should homeschool.
Because they pay college sports team coaches a million plus a year, & teachers don't get paid enough!
Because the teachers do not want to put up with the entitled bull crap from the parents and politicians who know what they should teach
Because teachers don’t want to be told they’re indoctrinating kids or that they’re groomers. Along with the fact that the job doesn’t pay well and most teachers have to supply kids with basic necessities because of budget cuts or dumping more money into sports.
We’ll stop messing with there be benefits , money and making them teach Murphy agenda
Because most teachers aren’t groomers
That's what she said.
