The Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado Ekiti, was locked down on Monday by medical staff working under the auspices of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), who were protesting unpaid wages by the administration. Hundreds of the hospital's protesting medical personnel blocked the facility’s main entrance, which was located in the state capital's Adebayo district.

August 22, 2022Hundreds of the hospital's protesting medical personnel blocked the facility’s main entrance, which was located in the state capital's Adebayo district.

The protest, which started at 8am, lasted for more than four hours as the personnel prevented anybody from entering or leaving the tertiary medical centre, including members of the management and doctors. “When this government came in 2018, the aggregate of the outstanding deductions was a sum of N500 million. But now, it has swelled to as much as N1.6billion,” Farotimi said.

“The board will have another meeting next week, so what we are doing is just a warning protest. This gate is where we are going to be doing our work for the next few days and we will continue until we have a positive response.”
