Having a range of ages and temperaments on hand reminded me of the village concept of childcare; the older children in particular were a great help and my son bonded quickly with our attentive rep and instructors.
The décor is simple and clean. During our stay, the instructors were lending a hand painting new beach huts with bright stripes. Picnic benches with umbrellas dot the terrace above the heated pool, and there are plenty of sun loungers and deckchairs on which to soak up the Devon sun.The accommodation is spread over the site, with in the main house adjoining the bar, and others in quieter spots that feel more like cabins.
Although our room wasn’t cleaned during our four-day stay , this didn’t feel like a problem – you don’t go to PGL to lounge in your room. There’s an hour’s window to visit the canteen for breakfast, lunch and dinner – all help-yourself buffets. Breakfast includes cooked English, plus cereals, pastries and fruit. Lunch varies from pasta to paninis. Dinner often includes pasta too, plus other mains such as fishcakes and meat substitutes, plus a salad bar and traditional puddings.
Many of the high-wire activities involved belay safety ropes which are controlled by fellow guests. Our rep Ross said these could have been replaced by automatic pulleys, but, as he pointed out, where would the fun be in that?
