Parents at an Adelaide private school were so worried about the mental health of their children they are on track to donate more than $9 million for a wellbeing centre that has psychologist consulting rooms, meditation spaces and a 25-metre swimming pool. It also has a cafe and two netball courts.
It found 18 per cent of the parents’ children had changed schools and another 13 per cent had considered doing the same. There is no comparative data indicating an increase in demand from parents for additional wellbeing facilities.
“If parents aren’t happy with what’s being delivered, or if the child is not making the kind of progress that they’re hoping for, change in a school could be an important opportunity to create a more fulfilling environment for the child and the parent as well,” Mr Fahey said.
