Greenfield University, Kaduna, has assured that appropriate security measures have been put in place to protect its students and staff against banditry, which claimed lives of five students last year.

The management, however, warned students against posting any form of information about the university on social media.

Speaking at the matriculation of the institution’s fourth set of students, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simon Katung, told the students to be security-conscious and avoid late return to their hostels. Bandits had in April 2021 attacked Greenfield University at its permanent site along Kaduna–Abuja highway, kidnapped about 23 students and staff and killed five students in captivity. While assuring parents present at the occasion of Greenfield’s commitment to producing graduates that will compete favourably with their peers globally, the VC warned that the university would not tolerate cultism among its students.

“The university will continue to work round the clock to ensure the security of life and property of our students. However, students are expected to be security-conscious throughout their stay in the university.”

What nonsense assurance can a university give when the State govt only recently said bandits have set up parallel govt in some areas. Is this a ploy to decieve parents and students into the trap of bandits?
