Amol Rajan will take over from Jeremy Paxman as the host of University Challenge, the BBC has announced.
In a statement, he said: "Being asked to host my favourite TV programme is dream-come-true territory." "I have watched University Challenge obsessively for years, addicted to its high standards, glorious title music and inspirational contestants," he said. Referring to the long-running show's previous hosts, he added: "I am very conscious that in the late, great Bamber, and that giant of British culture, Jeremy, I have vast shoes to fill.

I heard him on the 'Today' programme a while ago and he seemed to be having big problems reading during the Newspaper Review. (Lots of mistakes, hesitations, 'ums' 'ers' and 'erms', etc.) He wouldn't last long on 'Just A Minute'!

Sadly that for me will make watching it a challenge.
Diction not crisp enough, vital toward end of show when questions are rapid fired. Can he speak French, German,Italian Latin? There are many questions with quotes in a range of languages which need to be pronounced credibly. Victoria Coren Mitchell or Fiona Bruce better options.
