National Investment Secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and former chairman of the union, University of Port Harcourt chapter, Dr Austen Sado, shares his thoughts withASUU has been on strike for over five months due to the disagreement between it and the Federal Government.
You talked about the employer and the employee’s relationship, and that in some cases, the employer bullies the employee. Are you implying that the Federal Government is bullying ASUU? Anybody who does not understand a situation should better seek information and education. Any person who is not involved in this conflict could speak from a point or perspective of ignorance, and I wish that is not the case in this matter. How do you say two parties are stubborn? It is common in our culture that often times, people who are not bold enough to speak truth to power encourage the powerful to keep undermining the right of the weak.
I just wish that I will not be responding to an individual that has exhibited a gross level of ignorance because it appears that this particular individual was just probably playing to the gallery. That individual should have known that we had reached an agreement. You recall that in December 2020, we had a Memorandum of Action with government, and that Memorandum of Action had timelines. I can tell you that almost 60 per cent of that document is unimplemented.
I've always known ASUU to be self-centered. No food for a lazy man.
Their salary should be forefeited to Nigeria. It is economic sabotage to pay them salary. They have destroyed our educational development.
There is something Islam is not getting right,I observed,90% of Muslim countries fighting against each other or neighbors.Why? Palestinians fires missiles from Gaza to Israel,then be the first to shout Isreal is killing them.What a deceit?Don't u want Isreal to defend themselves?
Questions need to be asked of the lecturers, where their interest lies. How are they paying their bills, if they haven't been paid for the last five months. Are they looking after the interest of Nigeria public university students with the continued strike whilst in other roles
...We will start from that point. They (government) should forget whatever is behind us if they don’t want to pay' This should be on national media to whom it may concern...
Dr. Sado said 'They (Government) should know that any semester or session that is behind us will never be repeated. So, they (government) should also know that you can only work for what you are paid for. So, let’s hope that this strike is suspended as soon as possible...
So, you get to pay your staff that refused to work? Hmmm... The way we reason in this country should be a course to study in some Foreign Universities! Collecting salary without working is not corruption I believe!🤦🏻♂️

The students are being bullied by both tye parties..
You really expect to be paid while doing nothing? You want to eat your cake and still have it. No be so.
Do you expect FG to pay you while you go on strike....what a life😂
