Paul Gardner, 31, took a leap of faith in January and travelled to Mexico to meet Tania Alejandra

A bored Tesco driver who decided to learn a new language during lockdown last year is set to marry the "love of his life" after a whirlwind romance with a Mexican woman he met online.

Paul, 31, told the Record: "The journey Tania and I have been on is crazy - and all because I looked on to an app to learn Spanish. During lockdown I started to think about learning Spanish because I was bored and wanted something new to do. "After two years of Covid lockdown, I really felt like I needed to be somewhere different, so that was the point where I decided I would just go to visit her."

"But when I met Tania there were tears of joy in my eyes. It was the most emotional moment of my life. It sounds cheesy by I knew as soon as I saw her that she was the one. So I guess it's okay that people do crazy things for love."
