Figures published this month by England Football, part of the Football Association , showed that around 63 per cent of schools in England offer equal football coaching to boys and girls.
Around 72 per cent of primary schools offered equal football coaching to boys and girls last year, but the figure fell to just 44 per cent in secondary schools. The revelations come amid growing calls for greater football coaching for girls after the England’s women’s team sailed to victory in the Euro semi-finals this week with a 4-0 win against Sweden.and former England player, said: “Whatever happens in the final now, if girls are not allowed to play football just like the boys can in their PE lessons after this tournament, then what are we doing?”
“That’s probably still our biggest challenge, and that’s why the match against Sweden was so great. Everybody can see that women can play football. Hopefully that starts to get the message out.”
