United Workers’ Union members are planning to walk off the job to signal to the new government it needs to urgently boost funding so that qualified staff may be paid wages on par with school teachers, whose salaries are up to $30,000 more | niltiac

The nation’s childcare workforce is “underpaid and under-educated” and many teachers working in the primary school system would choose to specialise in early learning if they were paid the same, according to the former deputy chair of the country’s largest childcare provider.to signal to the new government it needs to urgently boost funding so that qualified staff may be paid wages on par with school teachers, whose salaries are up to $30,000 more.

McCarthy said the recent announcement from the NSW and Victorian governments about plans to add another optional but universally accessible year of play-based learning to the public school system would help instil confidence in early learning and greater respect for the work. The federation did not represent teachers at community preschools and daycare centres, where pay could be much less, but that could change if they were brought into the public system under the government’s plans to add an extra year of school.“Our preference would be if they’re identified as a public preschool, no matter where they’re located, we would have coverage for the teachers on those sites,” Rajendra said.

niltiac Have you sacked BevanShields yet?

niltiac Thanks, 'it's a strike' SMH. Costello's SMH is trash. Wouldn't trust it as far as I could toss it.

niltiac One job is baby-sitting. The other is educating to a formal curriculum.

niltiac Umm the teachers who work there are properly qualified thank you and those who assist are also properly qualified. What they are is underpaid undervalued and under appreciated

niltiac Talking to a pre-school teacher recently. She is so swamped with paperwork and the demand that she keeps photo records of everything they do as evidence, that she doesn't actually get a lot of face to face time with the kids.

niltiac Simply because someone is “qualified” doesn’t mean that the price of their labour is exempt from the laws of supply and demand. Especially the Price Elasticity of Demand. Hence robots.

niltiac lol 😂 You can get a early childhood certificate from a box of corn flakes. It ain’t rocket science. Finger painting isn’t hard.

niltiac Talking with some experience, they don’t want that!!! All the extra paperwork, larger pupil to teachers ratio, relationships issues, discipline, etc

niltiac In the future work cover will be Tailored to only be applicable to a genuine accident, any foreseeable one's not acted upon will be dismissed by Commonsense.the employee And the employer should come To a reasonable outcome for the slip up.

niltiac Taking with some experience, they don’t want that!!! All the extra paperwork, larger pupil to teachers ratio, relationships issues, discipline, etc

niltiac Workers should strike more.

niltiac 🤣
