The proposed sex education curriculum reflects the reality children are dealing with every day; young people have a right to information, and they want to make informed choices, writes Tanya Ward

It has taken 20 years but it’s clear to me that the new curriculum isn’t shying away from what matters to young people at this crucial stage in their life. Photograph: iStockI’m going to be honest. My children start secondary school soon and I’m filled with anxiety about it. Working for the Children’s Rights Alliance, I’ve just met too many young people and heard from our 140+ members about what young people are facing in school.

I know that being online is going to be more important when my children reach secondary school and for most, it’s an enriching experience. But I dread to think about how being online could distort their body image or dismantle their self-esteem. The prevalence of eating disorders and disordered eating among young people, and in particular young girls, has increased since the pandemic and online content is driving it.

The answer to many of these issues starts at home and in school. Our young people are global in outlook and have a far more advanced understanding of the complexities of adolescent life. At the same time, their life is more complex. They are living out much of their life online and many of the problems that blighted my generation growing up have now been surfaced with society saying enough is enough.

It has taken 20 years but it’s clear to me that the new curriculum isn’t shying away from what matters to young people at this crucial stage in their life. I see the fact that the curriculum is proposing to investigate the influence of social media including the influence of pornography on young people’s understanding, expectations and social norms in relation to sexual expression making the headlines.

They deserve the right to truthful information not propaganda.

Not where I live, love

I identify as a hairbrush.

This rag with its perverse ideology is on its way out

Whether they or the parents like it or not...

It reflects the pushing of a false ideology on children which will cause confusion. They need protected from this madness!

Seems a lot of parents commenting are naive about information kids have now. Almost every school will have at least 1 student having gender issues. Students unfortunately have access to porn quite easily. This is educating them on the realities of the world, a sad reality.

You can keep printing it until you believe it yourselves, but the parents of Ireland wont accept the sexualisation of their children get lost Tanya ya freak

I'll teach my own kids about the 🐦 and the 🐝 so buzz off.

Tanya Ward...She/her...Formerly ICCL...Children's Rights Alliance............

Just swap the harm: Irish free porn for kids with American free guns and consider what happens next. Ward should take her 'anxiety' to her psychotherapist and be reported to Tusla. How did this even get published? Now we must also endure the cowardly silence of the Irish bishops.

Informed choices Like the Cv19 jab? Did the people have the right information about possible side effects and even death? Take 4 just in case Our schools are full of groomers and predators and this WOKE horse💩 is ok? It's peadophilia. Are they going to warn them about that?

I have yet to see in the dep of Ed document or in any of those articles a consensus or definition of what pornography is.

When you see the NGO background of the person who put their name to this effrontery it all becomes clear😉. 'I’m going to be honest. My children start secondary school soon and I’m filled with anxiety about it'. Tanya Ward

Tanya .. agenda ?

Looks like Tanya doesn't have a fkn clue what she's talking about.

'The prevalence of eating disorders and disordered eating among young people, and in particular young girls, has increased since the pandemic and online content is driving it.' Online content is also driving the trans stuff but instead of discouraging it society is encourages it

It's nothing short of scandalous

Tanya Ward had better accept a big fat no to her proposed miseducation classes from my kiddo who does not consent.

Would you ever f*** off away from our children?! Teach them maths, science, languages, history and then rest, and then bugger off home to your cats!

It doesn’t reflect reality when talking about gender identity nonsense.

There is far more important values that we need to teach or youth and indoctrinating them about 99 genders or some other nonsense is not it.

'Reality', and without a hint of irony they'll tell them that a man can become a woman 🤨

But young people had no choice but to wear useless f**king masks for a year and a half every day in secondary schools, eh Tanya_Ward ? Where were the rights of young people then, Tanya? Bring on this sex ed degeneracy, we need to wake up normies. Régime change incoming.

Why would they include gender identity? Its bullshit and should not be taught to children.

Agreed. I went through second level education during the mid 90’s and all we got was the most basic biological straight sex education focused purely on procreation. Nothing else. At all.

Groomers.
