ASUU knocks Buhari for ordering minister to end varsity strikes

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami ; Education Minister, Adamu Adamu; Director General, Budget Office, Benjamin Akabueze; Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed and Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige during a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on the strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities at the State House, Abuja…yesterday.

The three other unions are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities , the Non-Academic Staff Union of Allied and Educational Institutions and the National Association of Academic Technologists . He added: “ASUU has always had serious reservations about the claim of “conciliation” by someone who has taken sides in the dispute, or by an unabashed protagonist in the crisis such as the current Minister of Labour and Employment. It is antithetical to the International Labour Organisation Conventions on collective bargaining.

In a statement by its Deputy National Coordinator, Ogunjinmi Isaac, and National Mobilisation Officer, Adaramoye Michael Lenin, the group, yesterday, said the decision is a step in the right direction.
