The youngster, whose parents did not want her to be named, filmed an alleged attack on a teacher and a classmate at Leeds West Academy in Rodley.
The parents say they were extremely shocked that the school was taking this action against her and claim they were told by the school that "the video was now being used by the police as evidence". What the school says Leeds West Academy defended its position, pointing out its record of safeguarding children, as well as explaining that all parents and learners are aware of its policy on filming.
"Our last audit was in November 2021 and this identified ‘exemplary practice’ in ‘staff safeguarding training and the clear confidential systems in school for children and young people to report concerns about their safety and wellbeing and the safety and wellbeing of others’."
